The River Road Neighborhood Association is a 501(c)(3) corporation.

Our activities include:

  • Researching and assessing projects planned by public or private agencies which may have an impact on the Neighborhood and interacting with such agencies to ensure the compatibility of their plans with the wishes of the residents and landowners of the Neighborhood.

  • Identifying public and private agencies with specific maintenance responsibilities and  interacting with such agencies to ensure the proper and timely maintenance of the Neighborhood.

  • Identifying other agencies with responsibilities in the Neighborhood and interacting with them to ensure cooperation between them and the Neighborhood.

  • Encouraging and planning events designed to maintain and enhance the area, and to bring residents, landowners and tenants together for mutual enjoyment.

The purpose of the River Road Neighborhood Association is the protection, maintenance and enhancement of the River Road Neighborhood. This includes the protection, maintenance and enhancement of the ecological, historical, social and cultural elements which formed the Neighborhood and endowed the area with its present character.

In 1975, River Road neighbors founded the River Road Neighborhood Association which became a non-profit 501(c) in 1976. In 2010, neighbors worked to designate its historic resources and the River Road Historic District was adopted by City Council in 2011. River Road is currently in the process of continuing to preserve these historic and cultural resources by developing Historic District Design Guidelines which will serve as a consolidated resource for design requirements within the District. Their overarching goal is to protect our history and quality of life that is defined by our relationship to the San Antonio River.

We are in the process of developing River Road specific design guidelines to help preserve the character of our neighborhood. HHM & Associates has been hired as our consultant for the process. All donations will go towards these efforts.

"Many of the green places and open spaces that need protecting most today are in our own neighborhoods. In too many places, the beauty of local vistas has been degraded by decades of ill-planned and ill-coordinated development."
