River Road Neighborhood Association

The February River Road Neighborhood Association Board Meeting will take place at Lions Field on Thursday, February 21, at 7 PM.  All are welcome!  (Please note that the previously posted date was in error.)

And, please mark your calendars for the annual RRNA General Membership Meeting, to be held on Sunday, March 9, from 2-4 PM at Lions Field.

A few important highlights from the January RRNA Meeting:

• The proposed new FEMA maps will be made public on January 29, 2008, and there will be a 90-day comment period.  IMPORTANT!:  Neighbors in areas prone to flooding should purchase flood insurance ASAP, before the new maps are finalized, in order to obtain the cheaper rates.  After the maps are finalized, if you are in the flood zone, your rates will be much higher.
• Golf course renovations are in progress, and it appears that the Municipal Golf Association really listened during the November 28 meeting where River Road neighbors voiced their concerns.  River Road neighbors will still be allowed access to the golf course after hours for recreational purposes, and no changes will be made to the fence along E. Craig.  (Note, however, that both of these could change if the city’s hike and bike trail ends up along E. Craig.)  Residents are urged to stay off the golf course for safety reasons, until renovations are complete.
• RRNA decided to join the San Antonio Scenic America chapter in order to support their fight against digital billboards in the city.
• A committee has formed to explore possibilities for our neighborhood to receive either Historic District or Conservation District designation.  Please note that this is NOT a RRNA committee, per city guidelines.  For more information, contact Barbara Witte-Howell, committee chair.  All are welcome to attend meetings.
• The nominating committee for new board positions will be Nell Grover, Nate Campbell, and Sally Boothe-Meredith.  If you are interested in running for the Board on March 9, please contact one of these individuals.
• And finally, Kyle Martin has resigned from the board.  We thank him for his many contributions to RRNA (including this website).  John Larcade has agreed to serve in his place until Board elections on March 9.

RRNA Board Meetings are typically held on the third Thursday of the month.  There will be a reminder sign posted at the entrances to the neighborhood.  Meeting dates may change, so please check our website each month for the most up-to-date info.
