Good morning. My name is John Butler and I am the Chief Deputy United States Marshal for the Western Disrict of Texas. On Monday, March 3, 2008, while having lunch at the Josephine Street Cafe, my government vehicle was broken into by "punching-out-the-lock." This was a "snatch and grab" operation where they took my briefcase. It was parked under the Highway 281 bridge, in full view of the Valero gas station, and anyone else coming and going from the Josephine Street Cafe.

The morning after the vehicle burglary, me and other Deputy United States Marshals cavassed the area looking for the briefcase, but were unsuccessful. In crimes of this nature, the felons usually search the briefcase, take what have value to them, and immediately discard the briefcase, so as not to be caught with conclusive evidence that they are car burglars. Well, we didn't look up 281 far enough.

Mr. Mike Sullivan of you Neighborhood Association found my briefcase in the brush just off the St. Mary's north exit, and called my residence. I am eternally grateful. I'll never be able to replace all the contents (personal pictures and such) but I did recover some items of personal value.

Again, Mr. Sullivan, thank you for taking the extra effort to locate me and return my briefcase. You restore my faith in humanity by doing acts of this nature.

I would like to make a contribution to your organization and will be sending a check today.
